Abdullahi Ganduje resigns as APC national chairman, cites health reasons

Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly resigned from his position.

Multiple reports on Friday say that Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, cited health reasons for his decision to resign, stating that he needs to focus on his well-being.

Ganduje’s resignation is with immediate effect, according to an X post by a former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad on Friday.

Ahmad wrote: “The National Chairman of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has resigned from his position, effective immediately, as confirmed by multiple sources.”

The news is shocking for party members across the country.

There is no clear reason for his resignation from his position yet; he has been working closely with President Tinubu since he assumed office in 2023.

In recent months Ganduje has been actively wooing opposition politicians to join the APC ahead of 2027.

A party member told BusinessDAY on Friday that Ganduje’s files and many other personal belongings were moved out of his office on Thursday night.
