Multiple explosions rattled Caracas early Saturday, leaving parts of the Venezuelan capital without electricity, CNN reported.
The first blast occurred around 1:50 a.m. local time, according to the network.
“One was so strong, my window was shaking after it,” said CNN correspondent Osmary Hernandez.
Power outages hit several neighborhoods, and the sound of aircraft could be heard following the blasts.
The cause of the explosions remains unclear.
Video obtained and verified by CNN showed two plumes of smoke rising into the night sky, with flickering city lights and an orange glow at the base of one plume. A flash and a dull boom were heard nearby.
Venezuelan outlets Efecto Cocuyo and Tal Cual Digital reported similar explosions in La Guaira state along the northern coast, and in the coastal city of Higuerote in Miranda state.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that the United States is preparing new measures against alleged drug trafficking networks in Venezuela, including potential strikes on land.
In October, Trump said he had authorized the CIA to operate in Venezuela to counter the flow of drugs and migrants from the country.
