New chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nasarawa State, Yusuf Iya, has said his administration would prioritise the welfare of workers as well as ensure all their entitlements due them are addressed.
The chairman, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia, dedicated his victory in the recently conducted NLC election to God and to the entire workers in the state.
“Given the sacrifices the workers made to ensure that I’m elected as the NLC chairman, I will not led them down,” he said.
“The welfare of the workers would at all times be the priority of the leadership under my watch in the next four years by the grace of God,” he said.
According to him, his victory at the polls was miraculous because the workers stood by him despite enticement and intimidation by some forces who did not mean well for workers in the state.
He said in pushing for the workers’ welfare, his administration would always engage the government meaningfully because “we are not fighting without compromising workers welfare.”
The chairman also appealed to those who could not make it in the election to offer wise advice to enable the new leadership of the union to succeed.
Iya, formerly the auditor, got elected during the state delegates conference of the Union on Thursday, where he defeated his former boss, Abdullahi Adeka, the immediate past chairman of the union in the state.
