The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Monday flagged off activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration with a community sanitation exercise and free medical outreach in Area 1, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen public trust and promote community wellbeing.
The initiative, led by Ahmed Muhammad, Commissioner of Police,  commenced in the early hours of the day and drew active participation from police personnel and residents of the Area 1 district.
During the sanitation exercise, officers and community members worked side by side to clean major streets and public spaces, clearing refuse and improving the overall environmental outlook of the area.
Alongside the cleanup campaign, the command conducted a free medical outreach that provided basic healthcare services, including consultations and treatments, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups who often lack access to affordable medical care.
The command said the dual initiative aligns with the objectives of the Nigeria Police Force to deepen community engagement, promote public health, and reinforce a people-centred policing approach.
Residents who benefited from the outreach praised the police for what they described as a thoughtful and impactful intervention.
Many noted that beyond improving environmental hygiene, the programme also offered critical healthcare support to individuals who might otherwise be unable to afford such services.
The Police reiterated the command’s commitment to building stronger partnerships with the public.
It disclosed that the National Police Day celebrations would continue in the coming days with a series of activities aimed at enhancing trust, strengthening collaboration, and improving service delivery between the police and the communities they serve.
The National Police Day celebration is observed annually to recognise the contributions of the police to national security while also providing an opportunity to engage citizens and reinforce mutual cooperation.
