FIFA opens case against Congo FA chiefs over financial misconduct

FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against senior officials of the Congo Football Federation over allegations of financial misconduct.

The global governing body confirmed the development in a statement, noting that the action follows the receipt of information and documents uncovered during an audit.

Among those facing investigation is FECOFOOT president Jean-Guy Mayolas, alongside general secretary Wantete Badji and treasurer Raoul Kanda.

The disciplinary process comes in the wake of a ruling by a criminal court in Brazzaville, where Mayolas, his wife, and his son were reportedly sentenced to life imprisonment earlier this month after being convicted of embezzling $1.1 million in FIFA funds.

Reports indicate they were tried in absentia, with their current whereabouts unknown.

Badji and Kanda were also handed five-year prison sentences by the same court for related offences.
“These proceedings follow the receipt of information and documents during an audit,” FIFA said in its statement.

The case marks a significant escalation in governance scrutiny within Congolese football, with FIFA expected to determine potential sanctions following the outcome of its disciplinary process.
