Liverpool crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after a 2-0 quarter-final second-leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at Anfield, sealing a 4-0 aggregate loss.

Ousmane Dembele struck twice to send Luis Enrique’s PSG into the semi-finals, where they will face either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

Despite arriving at Anfield with a two-goal cushion, PSG were pushed by a spirited Liverpool side before Dembele broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute with a superb left-footed finish. The French forward added a second in stoppage time to cap a clinical display.

Backed by a raucous home crowd, Liverpool searched for another famous European comeback but were unable to breach the visitors’ defence, exiting the competition to PSG for the second consecutive season.

After a subdued showing in Paris, Arne Slot’s men were much improved on home soil and applied pressure, but ultimately lacked the cutting edge to turn the tie.

Slot handed Alexander Isak his first start since December, leaving Mohamed Salah on the bench. However, Salah was introduced after just 30 minutes following an injury to Hugo Ekitiké.

PSG looked the more dangerous side in the first half, with Giorgi Mamardashvili producing key saves to deny Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Dembele. The winger also squandered a clear chance, firing over with only the goalkeeper to beat, while Marquinhos made a crucial defensive intervention at the other end.
