Every successful team leader has the responsibility to identify, develop and utilise the talents that are sometimes hidden, latent or yet untapped in other people. Not only that, the leader must also have the personal awareness, people skills and the will to ensure that individual talents are well harnessed. The purpose in to ensure that such talents bring benefits to the individual, as well as to his/her team or organisation. That is why performance coaching has become one of the most realistic coaching tools and techniques that can be employed to turn individual talents to corporate treasures.

Performance coaching in this regard is an invaluable business and organisational transformational suite. What this means is that every team leader can become a transformational leader. Such a person must however be prepared to perform particular roles and take on certain responsibilities with one major objective. That objective is to facilitate the transformation of individual team members’ talents to corporate treasures.

True leaders are those that find a way to succeed in this task because they consistently and diligently support and assist their people to unlock and unleash their latent potentials, especially through the process of capacity building. They are transformational leaders with the vision and skills to build the energy of their people around their own. They therefore create the platform for efficient and effective use of individual talents for the benefit of the whole team. This is perhaps most noticeable with organisations that have well entrenched business systems.

Business systems in this regard refer to the standard operations, culture, and philosophies of the business, which over time become the “spirit” driving the business. For example, many large organisations have systems, which are leveraged on established products and/or services, trained personnel and marketing intelligence, among others. It is the establishment of these systems that boosts their market influence and earn them enormous amount of money.

They are also able to do so much in a shorter period of time, while also being able to communicate to a larger audience more effectively because of their entrenched systems. The result is that their business also has the potential to grow more rapidly. The real power of business systemisation in this regard is the advantage that it gives to the business leaders to develop and effectively use leveraging strategies to get more out of their time, people, money, marketing, and operations. Systems leveraging thus helps to increase the impact of investments and efforts at a much lower cost.

The process of business systemisation in some instances presents the best opportunity for a business leader/owner to pass on his knowledge, experience, skills, values and motivations to others within the business. Business systemisation is therefore one of the greatest legacies that can be handed down to people that would be modeled and mentored in and by the business. It also means that the leader can be away from the business for a considerable length of time and be confident that the business would operate just as efficiently as if he was there. In some instances, the business could even operate better when he is away doing something else that gives him equal satisfaction.

As a true leader, never allow yourself to get into the personal insecurity mode and syndrome, whereby there is the tendency to be paranoid about possible challenge and/or usurping of authority. Inspirational and transformational leaders are never afraid of losing control, mainly because they are most secure in their leadership ability and confidence to get the best out of their people. This is because they understand that they are on a mission as leaders. That mission is to create systems that will offer their people the platform and opportunities to unlock, develop and unleash their potentials.

With specific regard to business operations, true systems and resource leveraging ensure that you pay the price of your particular business operation once most of the time, while you reap the benefits continually. This of course frees you to attend to other equally important tasks that would fetch you more benefits as well. In this way, systems leveraging helps to reduce the cost of managing a business, while holding out the opportunity of increased its operational efficiency. This is essentially because, due to leveraging, the people know what to do and what to expect each time.

It must however be emphasised that in every team, business, group or organisation, the system that is established would be peculiar in its operation. That is why the systems built around any particular endeavour would be expected to present a systematic, orderly and constant process that makes it differ from all other systems. It is for this reason that the particular systems of an organisation for example are difficult to copy. This is because the systems must have been developed under specific scenarios and circumstances peculiar to that organisation. Do you and your team have such systems?
