Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has assured the newly elected leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State of his administration’s cooperation and support as the party begins a new phase under its chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa.
The governor made the pledge during the 38th Kano State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, where Doguwa paid a farewell visit to the council following his emergence as the state APC chairman.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad, Yusuf commended Doguwa for his contributions to the development of the state during his time in government.
Doguwa, who previously served as Commissioner for Water Resources, was praised by the governor for his role in advancing key government policies, particularly initiatives that strengthened the education sector. Yusuf noted that his contributions helped shape reforms that culminated in the declaration of a state of emergency in education in Kano.

The governor described Doguwa as a committed public servant whose dedication and experience would remain valuable to the state even outside the executive council.
“Although his exit from the Executive Council is emotional, the new responsibility he has taken up will further contribute to the development of the state and the progress of the party,” Yusuf said.
He assured the new party leadership of the government’s willingness to work closely with them to promote unity and ensure the success of both governance and party programmes in the state.
Speaking during the visit, Doguwa expressed gratitude to the governor and members of the council for the support he received while serving as commissioner.
The new APC chairman said the party in Kano was in “safe hands” and called on members of the Executive Council and party faithful to maintain loyalty to the governor and the party’s leadership.
Doguwa also described his decision to join the APC as the right step, pledging that the party would mobilise support across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the party’s leadership would work diligently to strengthen its structures and ensure victory for the governor and other APC candidates in the next electoral cycle.
Several members of the Executive Council also spoke at the meeting, highlighting Doguwa’s political experience and leadership qualities.
Among them were the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Faruk Ibrahim; the Commissioner for Education, Haruna Ali Makoda; and the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Amina Abdullahi, popularly known as Amina HOD.
They commended the APC chairman for what they described as his integrity, resilience and commitment to political development in Kano State.
