The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello has stated that the party has recorded significant milestone in its membership drive ahead of the 2027 general election, revealing that it has surpassed 250,000 members.
In an interview at the party’s secretariat in Lafia, Bello disclosed that the e-registration exercise, which commenced in January, has witnessed remarkable success in the state. The registered members, he noted, have provided both their names and voter’s cards, demonstrating the party’s growing acceptability among the electorate.
Bello emphasised the strategic advantage of the party’s expanding membership base, stating that if each registered member could influence just one additional person to vote for APC candidates, victory in elections would be assured.
“So, the wishes of the people are what matter very much, and that is why the APC embarked on the e-registration in January this year, and in Nasarawa State, we were able to have over 250,000 registered members with their names and voter’s cards,” Bello said. “This shows the kind of acceptability we are enjoying in Nasarawa State.”
Bello also used the opportunity to reaffirm the party’s unwavering support for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s stance on zoning the governorship position to the Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone. The chairman described the governor’s position as standing on established precedent in the interest of equity and fairness.
“The governor is standing on the precedent that he made on the ground. He didn’t create it, he met it, and he wants to continue with that. So, nobody will fault him. And we, as a party, are giving him a hundred percent support,” Bello declared.
He noted that former Governor Tanko Al-makura had previously upheld the zoning arrangement when Nasarawa North had its turn, establishing a tradition that Governor Sule is committed to maintaining.
“He believes in zoning; we also believe in what he said. And every right-thinking person will also believe in what he said,” the chairman added.
