Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, has named Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

Sule said Wadada represents the “Muje Maha” philosophy that has guided his administration’s approach to governance and inclusiveness.

The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ali Abare, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday following a meeting with political appointees and heads of government agencies at the Government House in Lafia.

According to the statement, Sule explained that the decision followed over a year of extensive consultations with stakeholders, including investors, youth and women groups, traditional rulers, party leaders, and representatives from the state’s three senatorial zones.

“We have to look for people who have the capacity to win the election,” the governor said. He noted that the process was eventually narrowed to three viable aspirants before Wadada emerged as the preferred choice.

He commended aspirants from Nasarawa West Senatorial District for their maturity, revealing that they had collectively agreed to support whoever emerged.

The aspirants also proposed a power-sharing arrangement to ensure equitable distribution of elective positions between the two federal constituencies in the zone an idea the governor endorsed.

Sule urged political appointees to set aside personal loyalties and rally behind Wadada in line with the “Muje Maha” principle.

“Now is the time to demonstrate that Muje Maha stands for Wadada and for all candidates of our party,” he said.

On the 2027 presidential election, Sule expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure strong support in the state, adding that even some critics of the administration had indicated willingness to vote for him.
