The office of Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, has denied reports that he has resigned his position, describing a viral resignation letter attributed to him as fabricated.

A letter circulating on Tuesday, addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, purported to announce Adelabu’s resignation in order to pursue the 2027 Oyo State governorship election. His special adviser on strategic communications, Bolaji Tunji, flatly rejected it. “He has not resigned. That letter of resignation did not come from his office,” Tunji told TheCable on Tuesday evening.

Asked whether Adelabu would eventually resign to join the governorship race, Tunji was non-committal. “When the time comes, everything will be revealed,” he said.

The denial comes against a backdrop of well-documented political ambition. Adelabu met APC stakeholders in Oyo State in June 2025 to declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election — his third attempt at the seat after losing to Governor Seyi Makinde in both 2019 and 2023. President Bola Tinubu had on 17th March directed political appointees seeking elective office in 2027 to resign on or before 31st March.
