Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting in Abuja, shortly after a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The meeting is believed to be part of ongoing consultations among opposition figures seeking to strengthen political collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Prominent ADC leaders in attendance were National Chairman, David Mark; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (Nigeria) in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.

Also present at the meeting were former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal; former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, among other political stakeholders.

From the PDP faction, those in attendance include Oyo State governor ,Seyi Makinde; factional National Chairman Turaki; elder statesman Jerry Gana; former Senate President Adolphus Wabara; and former Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu.

Other members of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) were also said to be participating in the talks.

The meeting came shortly after ADC supporters staged a protest at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, where party leaders raised concerns over issues relating to electoral administration and party recognition.

Sources said the talks were focused on opposition cooperation and strategies aimed at strengthening democratic processes and unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
