Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hosted former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Abuja, amid growing speculation over the latter’s planned defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku disclosed the meeting in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, describing it as a courtesy visit during which both leaders held extensive discussions on national issues.
“This evening, I received the former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), H.E. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on a courtesy visit. We had a robust discussion on the state of the nation,” he wrote.
The meeting cane days after the National Secretary of the ADC and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, visited Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence. Kwankwaso had confirmed the visit on his X page but did not disclose details of their talks.
Speculation has continued to mount over Kwankwaso’s political future, with reports suggesting he could emerge as a vice-presidential candidate alongside Peter Obi under the ADC platform, should he formally join the party.
Meanwhile, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has indicated that Kwankwaso is set to officially join the ADC and register with the party on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Bompai, Kano.
The expected move would mark his exit from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), a party he played a key role in building, and signal the beginning of a new political chapter ahead of the 2027 general elections.
