Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State led a high-powered delegation of stakeholders to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, formally endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Governor was accompanied by his wife, Nkechinyere Mbah, and a cohort of political heavyweights from the state. The delegation included Jim Nwobodo, former Governor; Sullivan Chime, former Governor and Ken Nnamani, a former President of the Senate.
Their presence marks a significant shift in the regional political landscape as the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeks to deepen its footprint in the South-East.

The move is widely viewed as a strategic pivot in a region where the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, secured approximately 84 per cent of the vote during the 2023 polls. The endorsement signals an aggressive effort to integrate the South-East into the central political fold.
Mbah pledges Enugu victory for the presidency
Mbah, who was originally elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the APC in October 2025, has committed to delivering Enugu State to the President in the forthcoming 2027 cycle.
The Governor’s transition to the ruling party was previously described by Vice President Kashim Shettima as a move to “connect the South-East to the centre.” This latest visit to Aso Villa serves to consolidate that alliance and formalise the state’s support for the “Renewed Hope” agenda.
