The United States (US) Department of the Treasury has announced that Jonathan Burke, its Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing, will travel to Nigeria from February 23 to 24 to strengthen cooperation with Nigerian authorities on countering terrorist financing.
In a media advisory issued on Sunday by the United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria, the visit is described as part of the President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce violence against Christians and other vulnerable groups.

According to the advisory, Burke is expected to hold meetings with Government Authorities and Private Sector Stakeholders during his two-day visit.
The discussions will focus on identifying and addressing risks within Nigeria’s financial sector that can be exploited to fund terrorist activities.
The Treasury Official will also engage counterparts on measures to strengthen financial safeguards and enhance cooperation in disrupting illicit financial flows linked to extremist groups.
