Kimberly Daniels, a Florida Lawmaker and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council of the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD), has released a formal assessment on Nigeria’s worsening security situation, urging a review of the Country’s defence leadership.
The report focuses on the surge in terrorism and mass killings across North-Central and North-Western Nigeria, particularly during the 2026 Easter period, when coordinated attacks in Plateau, Kaduna and Nasarawa States left dozens dead.
According to the document, religious gatherings were specifically targeted during Palm Sunday and Easter services, raising concerns about escalating sectarian violence.
While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the attacks, the report notes a widening gap between official assurances and the lived realities of affected communities, where residents continue to face persistent insecurity.
The lawmaker expressed serious reservations about retaining Bello Matawalle in his current role.
“These issues raise red flags that could undermine military effectiveness and erode both public and international confidence,” the report stated.
The report recommended an immediate leadership review within the Defence Ministry, including the possible removal or redeployment of Bello Matawalle, current Minister of Defence.
Beyond Nigeria, Daniels urged the United States and international partners to intensify diplomatic pressure on Nigerian authorities to ensure accountability for those accused of aiding terrorism.
Daniels said her position was informed by direct appeals from Nigerians.
