The Plateau State Government has ordered a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, which claimed lives and left several others injured on Sunday.

The directive was conveyed in a statement signed by Joyce Ramnap, Commissioner for Information and Communication, on behalf of the state government, made available to Journalists Sunday night in Jos said the restriction will take effect from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.

“The Plateau State Government in conjunction with security agencies wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect, commencing from 12 midnight of 29th March to 1st April, 2026.”

“The government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemns this barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens and assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice”; the statement said.

The government urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations into the incident.

BusinessDay recall that an unspecified number of residents were on Sunday killed following a late-night attack by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba community, located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the assailants stormed the area at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday firing gunshots indiscriminately and sending shockwaves of fear across the neighbourhood.

The sudden eruption of violence forced many residents to flee for safety.

The attackers were said to have operated for several minutes, moving through parts of the community unchallenged before eventually escaping. Their actions left confusion and distress in their wake.

BusinessDay reports that in the aftermath, residents have been left struggling to identify victims, with the exact number of those killed yet to be confirmed. The situation remains unclear as families search for loved ones.
