Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Chiamaka Nnake as secretary to the Anambra State Government, making her the first woman to hold the position in the state’s history.

The appointment, announced by the governor’s chief press secretary Christian Aburime on Monday, comes days after Soludo was sworn in for a second term on 17th March. Nnake, 39, previously served as the state’s commissioner for budget and economic planning, where she led the mobilisation and allocation of state resources across key development programmes.

Who she is
Nnake brings a blend of private sector rigour and public service experience to her new role. Before joining the Anambra government, she spent years at PricewaterhouseCoopers Nigeria as a senior strategy consultant, leading more than 30 client engagements across financial services, government, and agriculture. She received the firm’s CEO award in 2021 for outstanding performance.

In government, she has served on the boards of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Small Business Agency, while also acting as the state’s reform champion for ease of doing business. She contributed to the development of the Anambra Vision 2070 long-term development blueprint and serves as Nigeria’s chairperson for the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity programme.

Earlier in her career, she worked as a business analyst at IHS Towers and as an equity research analyst at Meristem Securities.

Her credentials
Nnake holds a first-class degree in accounting from Benson Idahosa University and an MBA from Lagos Business School. She is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, has passed level one of the Chartered Financial Analyst programme, and completed the implementing public policy programme at Harvard Kennedy School. She is currently pursuing a PhD in public policy.
