Ahmed Sanusi has officially assumed duty as the 35th Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with a pledge to deepen security operations and strengthen ties between the police and residents.
Sanusi took over leadership of the command on Tuesday in Abuja, succeeding Miller Dantawaye, who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed to another strategic role by Olatunji Disu, the Inspector-General of Police.
His appointment comes at a time when authorities are intensifying efforts to address evolving security challenges in the nation’s capital, including crime, intelligence-led policing, and public trust in law enforcement.
A seasoned officer with over two decades of service, Sanusi brings a wealth of operational and intelligence experience to the role.
Before his deployment to the FCT Command, he served as Commander of the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), a critical unit tasked with tackling high-profile crimes and security threats across the country.
Born on May 20, 1972, in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, the new commissioner joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 2000 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police under Course 20.
After completing his training in 2001, he began his career at the Niger State Police Command.
Speaking on his assumption of office, Sanusi reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating existing security frameworks in the FCT while prioritising community-oriented policing strategies.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and residents in ensuring a safer capital city.
The FCT Police Command, in a statement issued by Josephine Adeh, its spokesperson, called on residents to continue supporting the police through timely information sharing and cooperation, stressing that public partnership remains vital to maintaining peace and order.
