The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of Jido Ahmed, a police inspector attached to the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Kontagora, following his alleged involvement in an armed robbery incident.
Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, who disclosed this in a statement sent to BusinessDay via WhatsApp on Sunday, said officers from A Division Kontagora swiftly mobilised to the scene and pursued the suspects to the Dadin-Kowa area, where a gun duel ensued.
He explained that the inspector and an accomplice, who is currently at large, had attacked a filling station behind the BCG Motor Park in Kontagora, where they robbed an attendant of an undisclosed sum and shot him in the chest.
According to him, “On 15th April 2026 at about 2:40pm, a distress call was received that two armed robbers attacked a filling station behind BCG Motor Park in Kontagora, robbed an attendant and shot the victim on the chest”.
He added, “Police patrol team of A Division Kontagora mobilised to the scene, trailed the suspects to Dadin-Kowa area and engaged them in a gun duel during which one of the robbers was shot on the leg and disarmed”.
The police spokesperson revealed that the injured suspect was later identified as Inspector Jido Ahmed, attached to the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Kontagora.
He said the suspect was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Kontagora for treatment before being referred to the Police Clinic in Minna.
Abiodun further stated that the officer was confirmed dead at about 1:00am on April 16, 2026, while receiving treatment, describing the development as unfortunate and shocking.
He noted that investigations into the incident are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplice involved in the attack.
