At least six people have been confirmed dead and eight others injured after two separate overnight attacks hit communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
It was gathered that in the first incident, gunmen stormed Hurum Gashish community in Barkin Ladi around 10 p.m. on Sunday, opening fire on residents. Four people were killed, while five others sustained injuries.
About an hour later, another attack occurred in Shonong Bachi community in Riyom LGA, where armed men reportedly invaded the area and shot sporadically. Two people died in the attack, and three others were injured.
The coordinated assaults triggered widespread panic, forcing residents to abandon their homes and seek safety elsewhere.
Rwang Tenglong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association confirmed the incidents to Journalists on Monday in Jos, saying the affected communities were now in mourning.
He also condemned the attacks and expressed concern over the continued wave of violence in rural parts of the state.
He added that those injured had been taken to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Meanwhile, attempts to get an official response from Alfred Alabo, the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
