Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, vice-chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has been appointed as a member of the National Committee for the Advancement of Occupational Therapy, Audiology and Speech Therapy Education (NCAOTASE).

The committee, constituted to strengthen and advance the development of allied health education in Nigeria, brings together key stakeholders from academia, government agencies, and the health sector. Adejuyigbe, in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Akure through the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Isaac Oluyi, said: “As the premier specialised medical science university in Nigeria, we have demonstrated over the years that we have what it takes to strengthen and advance not just the mainstream medical education, but also develop allied health education in Nigeria.”

Other members of the committee include Gabriel Aborele (NUC), Hadiza Ismail (TETFund), David Atuwo (SSA), Isa Nurudeen (MD, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Kano), Paul Agboola (MD, Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta), John Emaimo (VC, FUAHSE, Enugu), Julius Ademokoya (University of Ibadan), Femi Unufegan (Provost, Michael Imoudu College of Education, Edo State), and Ayeni Oluwasegun (Occupational Therapist, UNIMED, Ondo), with TETFund serving as the secretariat.

Adejuyigbe’s inclusion in the committee is a recognition of her expertise and leadership in medical education and is expected to further strengthen UNIMED’s contribution to the development of specialised healthcare training in Nigeria.

The committee is tasked with developing strategies and frameworks to enhance the training, accreditation, and professional standards of Occupational Therapy, Audiology, and Speech Therapy education nationwide.
