The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 4,000 personnel across the Federal Capital Territory to ensure a peaceful and secure Easter celebration.
Olusola Odumosu, commandant of the NSCDC FCT Command, ordered the massive deployment as part of proactive measures to safeguard lives, property, and critical national assets before, during, and after the Easter period.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the command said the operation would cover key areas across the territory, including churches, shopping malls, markets, hospitals, motor parks, recreational centres, and other locations considered vulnerable to security threats.
The deployment cuts across several specialised units of the corps, including the Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Crack Squad, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Agro Rangers.
These units have been strategically positioned to respond swiftly to any security breaches.
The command also disclosed that undercover operatives had already been deployed to conduct covert surveillance and intelligence gathering aimed at preventing criminal activities.
“Black spots such as uncompleted buildings and other hideouts identified as potential havens for criminal elements are also under close monitoring,” he stated.
Odumosu directed area commanders and divisional officers to intensify security presence across all area councils within the FCT, stressing the need for vigilance and operational efficiency to avoid any security lapses.
He further charged personnel to maintain discipline and professionalism while carrying out their duties, urging them to work in synergy with other security agencies.
The commandant warned against harassment, intimidation of residents, and accidental discharge of firearms, emphasising strict adherence to rules of engagement.
Residents of the FCT were also advised to remain vigilant throughout the festive period.
Odumosu urged the public to be alert to suspicious movements, unusual behaviour, or unattended objects and promptly report such observations to security agencies.
“We are ready as always to ensure a peaceful celebration. You have a part to play too by being proactive, vigilant, and ready to cooperate with law enforcement agencies for our collective good,” he said.
The NSCDC boss warned criminals and vandals to stay away from critical national assets and infrastructure, noting that covert operatives and patrol teams had been strategically positioned across the territory to apprehend offenders.
He added that the corps, in collaboration with other security agencies, had heightened surveillance across the FCT to pre-empt any threats during the Easter celebrations.
Odumosu also called on Christian faithful to reflect the values of love, sacrifice, tolerance, and patience associated with the season, noting that embracing these virtues would contribute to national unity and peace.
He wished residents a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.
