Ngozi Okolie, member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Friday, announced his resignation from the Labour Party (LP).
Okolie, who made the announcement while briefing newsmen in Asaba, Delta State capital, said he was defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Today, I decided to resign from the LP. I don’t know what tomorrow may bring but I think my defection would attract a lot of progress and projects to my constituency,” he said.
On what informed his decision, Okolie said, “I think that the LP for now is very disorganised. We don’t have any headway, no direction and the lingering problem in the party is actually drawing us back. Staying in a party that is not organised will actually not bring much progress to my constituency.
“I felt I should resign from the party and at least, seek other party that would help me attract projects to my constituency.
“If I say PDP would you agree? For now, I’m approaching the APC. Of course, you know the traditional rulers in Delta State say they’ll endorse APC President, and the state governor has moved to APC.
“There are other parties but I think it would be to the advantage of my constituency to actually join APC too. We’ve discussed with a lot of traditional rulers, and some people in the Constituency. Of course, I couldn’t reach everybody and that is why I called you so that through you (the media), they could be reached.”
Okolie said that among his constituents that he had discussed the issue with, there are those who objected while most people are also in support of the move.
“We have weighed the options available before me and considering that I have two years to the end of my tenure, it is in the interest of the people for me to join the APC,” he disclosed.
