The recently promoted senior police officers across Nigeria have been urged to justify their elevation by intensifying efforts to combat the rising wave of insecurity in the country.
The call was made by Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, Kano State Commissioner of Police, during the decoration ceremony of 29 newly promoted officers of the command held on Monday in Kano.
The CP, while addressing the officers, emphasised that promotion in the Nigeria Police Force comes with increased responsibility, accountability, and expectations. He charged the beneficiaries to be more proactive, innovative, and dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the nation.
“It is with great honour and pride that I welcome you all to this significant occasion marking the decoration of 29 newly promoted officers of the Kano State Police Command,” he said. “Your promotion is not merely a reward for your past accomplishments but a call to greater responsibility and higher expectations. As you adorn your new ranks, I urge you to rededicate yourselves to the noble ideals of integrity, discipline, and selfless service that define our profession.”
The commissioner commended Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), for his visionary leadership and commitment to the welfare and career advancement of officers in the Force.
He also expressed appreciation to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 1 Kano, for his guidance and mentorship, which, he noted, have been instrumental in enhancing the operational efficiency of the command.
Out of the 923 officers recently promoted nationwide by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on the recommendation of the IGP, 29 were decorated under the Kano State Command. The breakdown of the promotions includes two officers elevated from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), 21 promoted from Superintendent of Police (SP) to CSP, and six elevated from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to SP.
Bakori reminded the newly decorated officers that their promotion should serve as motivation to deliver better results in crime prevention, community engagement, and intelligence-led policing.
“The challenges facing our nation today require innovative thinking, teamwork, and unwavering commitment. I trust that you will rise to these expectations and inspire your subordinates to do the same,” he added.

At the national level, IGP Egbetokun had, on Tuesday, led the decoration of newly promoted senior police officers at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The event witnessed the elevation of one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), four Commissioners of Police (CPs) to AIGs, and eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to substantive CPs.
Among those decorated were DIG Mohammed Dankwara, AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen, alongside CPs Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, and Aniefok Akpan, among others.
In his address, the IGP congratulated the officers and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rewarding hard work, diligence, and professionalism. He urged the officers to uphold integrity, fairness, and justice while embracing intelligence-led and community-based policing strategies to stay ahead of emerging security threats.
Both ceremonies underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed focus on professionalism, accountability, and proactive policing, as the newly promoted officers take on greater responsibilities in safeguarding the nation.
