Tragedy struck again in Plateau State as unknown gunmen stormed Nyango Gyel in Jos South Local Government Area, killing three people in a late-night assault.

The attackers invaded the community at about 10:40 p.m. on Friday, shooting sporadically before fleeing into the darkness, according to community sources.

Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the incident to BusinessDay on Saturday, describing it as “one too many”.

He strongly condemned the attack, saying it represents yet another senseless assault on innocent citizens going about their normal activities.

“This cycle of attacks on our rural communities must stop. We call on security agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the spokesperson said.

Efforts to reach Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer, for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone lines were unreachable at the time of filing this report, leaving the official police response to the incident unclear.

The incident comes barely six days after residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area were thrown into mourning following a similar attack by gunmen on the community.

The assailants reportedly stormed the area under the cover of darkness, opening fire on unsuspecting residents, leaving several people dead and others injured.

Homes were deserted as panic spread, further deepening fears among residents and highlighting the persistent insecurity across parts of Plateau State.
