Ahead of next year’s general elections, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has insisted that he would keep to the terms of the agreement that enabled him to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in June 2025.
Eno who had revealed before his defection that he had consulted widely has however kept the terms and conditions of the agreement away from public scrutiny.
Among the groups he consulted were political parties, youths and women groups as well as stakeholders in the state which guaranteed him a safe landing. He had also consulted with members of both national and state assembly.
Though details of the agreement have not been made public, it was gathered that political office holders including elected members of both the state and national assembly were to be given automatic tickets for their re-election.
Speaking in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital , Governor Eno revealed that there was an agreement and promised to keep to it being a man of his words.
Already, all the three senatorial districts of the state have endorsed President Bola Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno in their bid for re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the governor, aspirants into elective positions should test themselves first, assess the political temperature before throwing their hats into the ring adding nobody would change a position that is not broken.
“You should understand the temperature , do not look at my face because you are on your own.
“Find out first if this election that I am taking part, will I succeed? And If you don’t, will I form the association of aggrieved members?
“Test yourself and don’t grief because we know we had an agreement, we will keep to those agreements
“You don’t change what is not broken, understand the terrain before you step. In the APC, the directive is that we should not change positions,” the governor added.
