The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Adamawa State University, Mubi.

A delegation from the commission, led by Professor Auwal Abubakar, presented its findings to the Adamawa State Government ahead of the take-off of the college.

The panel highlighted the need for adequate manpower to support the proposed 24 departments in the new college.

Speaking during the meeting, Kaletapwa Farauta, deputy governor, Adamawa State, said that the plan to establish the college has been in progress for some time.

She described the university as the oldest in the North-East and assured the NUC team of the government’s continued support toward the project.

Farauta emphasized that the health sector remains a top priority of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration. She added that the new college would strengthen healthcare delivery and called for continued partnership to ensure its success.

Earlier, the NUC panel visited the specialist hospital in the state to assess its suitability for upgrade to a teaching hospital. The team also inspected facilities at Adamawa State University, Mubi, where they expressed satisfaction with the available infrastructure and equipment.

The visit followed the university’s application to establish a College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences. The panel noted that preparations for the take-off of the college are already at an advanced stage.

Clement Augustine, a professor and vice chancellor of the university, welcomed the development and commended Governor Fintiri for his support toward the realization of the long-awaited project.
