I was very expectant; I think I dreamt about Wakaa the musical before watching it on April 2nd, 2017 and I wasn’t disappointed. The new Terra Kulture Arena, the venue for the show looked so fresh, new and crispy. The black velvet material used to decorate the stage made it look extra spicy.
The play, Wakaa The Musical is about the trials, successes, and experiences of graduates with varied backgrounds, a wager between them after graduation has a twist when the realities of life and the folly of their choices knock them. In time, they reunite. I enjoyed the fact that the story reveals the struggles and challenges young adults face in present day Nigeria and abroad.
The most interesting element in the musical show is the combination of music, dance, and drama, the different songs rhymed with every scene in the production. At every intersection in the play, the audience erupts with cheers and laughter, which is an attestation to a well-directed show.
From The Lighting to the Sound, Music, Dance Choreography, Makeup, Wardrobe Styling and Stage managers, Wakaa The Musical is Truly Spectacular.
The cast members of the production for the Lagos edition are Bimbo Manuel, Patrick Diabua, Nengi Adoki, Ade Laoye, Ozzy Agu, Jolomi Amuka, amongst others
Wakaa The Musical takes you on an emotional roller coaster and a strong lampoon of politics in Nigeria. A dynamic family-orientated two-hour stage musical performance of drama, comedy, live music and dance, Wakaa The Musical explores the scheming, maneuvers, betrayals and games people play in life.
Wakaa The Musical, a proudly Nigerian production, produced and directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters will be showing in Lagos all through the Sundays in April. Last year Wakaa the musical became the first Nigerian musical to premiere at London’s West End.
