The government of Canada with some private sector partners, will be hosting a cybersecurity training for immigrants in Calgary, Canada. This will involve work integrated learning and job placement in any one of the 16 entry-level cybersecurity roles on offer.

Participants will receive industry-recognised micro-credentials to launch their careers.

This training is funded by the Alberta Ministry of Jobs, Economy and Trade, in partnership with ReTrain Canada and Manpower Canada. The session will take place from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm for 12 weeks in March.

Cybersecurity for Immigrants is in partnership with ReTrain Canada and will connect participants with intensive, industry-led training in Cybersecurity foundations, applied penetration testing and work experience.

Participants will be connected with intensive, industry-led training in Cybersecurity foundations, basic encryption, and applied penetration testing at no cost.

Course Overview

  • Cybersecurity fundamentals and operating systems introduction to Kali Linux, Bash and PowerShell scripting Basic encryption
  • Passive and active information gathering, vulnerability, scanning and web application attacks
  • Lab time for penetration testing and real-life simulations
  • ReTrain Canada cybersecurity designation exams
  • Networking opportunities
  • Programming languages including Python

Program Structure

  • One week of employment preparation with Manpower
  • Twelve weeks of intensive technical training onsite at ReTrain Canada
  • Four weeks of potential work experience (project or company-based)
  • Work-integrated learning and job placement support
  • Upon completion of the training, participants will be placed in entry-level cybersecurity roles.
