Despite rising tensions over a possible strike by the University of Lagos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the institution’s management has maintained that its ongoing examinations will proceed without disruption, signaling its determination to keep its academic schedule intact.
This was announced in a statement signed by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, head of the university’s communication unit, despite a threat of an indefinite strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the institution.
According to the statement, management of the University of Lagos had taken note of media reports indicating that the ASUU UNILAG chapter, during its congress held on March 10, 2026, instructed its members to withdraw their services over alleged unpaid Consolidated Academic Teaching Allowances (CATA).
The university, however, said due process was not followed in making the declaration. The school management stated that it remains committed to the welfare of staff and students and has continued to engage with the ASUU executive to address the concerns raised.

The management also reiterated that the institution is particularly concerned about the timing of the directive, noting that students are currently at a critical stage of the academic session with semester examinations already underway.
It warned that any disruption at this stage could negatively affect students, particularly those preparing for the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), internships, and law graduates scheduled to proceed to the Nigerian Law School.
The management, therefore, announced that examinations scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, would proceed as planned.
However, it clarified that courses for which students have already been informed by their deans or heads of department that examinations would not be held would be rescheduled, with new dates to be communicated later.
The university added that all examinations would continue as scheduled from Thursday, March 12, 2026, with deans directed to make the necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise.

Management also appealed to members of the university community to remain calm and continue with their lawful academic activities while discussions with the ASUU leadership continue toward an amicable resolution of the issues.
