The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has disbursed a total of N1.3 billion in student loans to 17,599 beneficiaries of Ahmadu Bello University for the 2026 academic year.

According to the fund, the payments were made in three tranches. The first, released on February 13, covered 7,570 students, while a second tranche on the same day supported 7,572 students. A final tranche, disbursed on February 18, reached 2,457 students.

NELFUND said the disbursement reflects its commitment to expanding access to higher education through timely financial support.

The Students’ Loan Programme is designed to ease the financial burden on students and promote wider educational inclusion across the country.

Adamu Ahmed, the vice-chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in a signed letter dated March 17, acknowledged that the university received the sum of N1,301,545,250 credited to the institution’s account by NELFund in the year 2026, being a disbursement of an education loan to students of the university.

A breakdown of the loan indicates that on February 13, 7,570 beneficiaries received the sum of N545,144,750; while the sum of N571,204,125 was disbursed to 7,572 beneficiaries on the same date, and on February 18, the sum of N185,235,376 was disbursed to 2,457 beneficiaries.

The university management applauded NELFund for facilitating financial support, which they said has gone a long way in helping students achieve their academic goals.
