Foluso Philips, president of Igbobi College Old Boys Association (ICOBA) says the focus of the association is bringing back the lost glory of the school.

He spoke at the 6th annual Christmas Dinner/Awards of the association which held in Lagos at the weekend, with Vice-President Professor Yemi Osinbajo and other prominent Nigerians who passed through the school in attendance.

Some eminent Nigerians who were given lifetime award at the dinner include: Justice Samuel Adebiyi; Olasubomi Balogun, chairman, First City Monument Bank; Ayodeji Banjo, former Vice-Chancellor, University Of Ibadan, Felix-Ibru; Chris Ogunbanjo; Samuel Falae, Bolaji Akinyemi among others, all of whom are old boys.

According to Philips, the old boys who are found in all sectors of the economy and abroad, are rallying round to bring back the good old days when the school was rated tops in Nigeria.

He added that school has made significant contribution to the development of Nigeria through arrays of competent and distinguished Nigerians produced by the school.

He said apart from building Nigerians academically, the school is responsible for building Nigerians of impeccable character, who, he said have been consistent in terms of integrity and in their chosen profession.

“There are consistent Nigerians who have proven to the world that Igbobi College truly breeds noble gentle men and highly distinguished Nigerians.”

On the plans to reposition the school among the best in the country, Philips said:”We as ICOBANS, we are going to get into a major war in ensuring that Igbobi College is taking back to what it used to be-what we pride ourselves about 30-40 years ago that the college was the hint thing of Nigeria. In those days, to get to the Igbobi College, you have to write exams.

“Igbobi College is private school of highest standard. In those days, the fee used to chase people away, when compare what we paid in those days to now; you will realise and understand why the school has gone down.

“The school breeds character such that till today, if an Igbobian behaves out of character, you would wonder where such person gets that. When you spend five years or seven years of your life in boarding school with the rigour and everything, you would realise there so many things that tend to build and shape individual’s character. These are some of the things we want to bring back to the school.”

The ICOBA President described the Christmas Dinner as a memorable reunion, saying that the event was the largest gathering the association has had.
