Akwa Ibom State government has announced plans to recruit 3,000 teachers to teach in public primary schools in the state.
Ezekiel Umoh, permanent secretary, Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AKSUBEB), on behalf of the chairman of the Board, made this known in a statement made available to the media.
According to the statement, those to be recruited must be holders of the National Certificate in Education in addition to possession of primary school certificates and senior secondary school qualifications.
Last year, the state government began the process of recruiting of 5,000 teachers for public secondary schools in the state. However, the r teachers have yet to receive appointment letters and postings.
Sources attributed the delay to bureaucratic bottleneck and paucity of funds.
Meanwhile, the state government has restated its resolve to improve education with the provisions of basic facilities and equipment in public schools across the state.
Charles Udoh, commissioner for information and strategy who stated this said the state government would continue to place high premium on education for manpower development in the state.
According to Udoh, state government has demonstrated this commitment by paying over N60m yearly as fees for students registering for Senior Secondary Certificates Education (SSCE) in the state.
He solicited the support of parents and youths to enable the state government deliver on its campaign promises of providing quality education and industrial development.
