Twenty-two students will graduate with first class honours as Plateau State University (PLASU) prepares for its combined 8th and 9th convocation ceremonies scheduled for February 14 at the university main campus in Bokkos.
Shedrack Best, a professor and Vice Chancellor of the University, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday in Bokkos noting that a total of 2,577 students will be celebrated at the ceremony.
Best explained that the graduating class comprises 2,485 undergraduates and 92 postgraduate students, marking the university’s first award of postgraduate degrees, including Master’s and Postgraduate Diplomas.

He described the convocation as a major milestone in the institution’s journey, coming nearly two decades after the university’s establishment.
The Vice Chancellor commended the media for supporting the institution’s growth and helping project its activities to a wider audience over the years.
“We deeply appreciate how you have stood with us over the years, from the 1st to the 7th convocations and now as we prepare for the 8th and 9th,” he said.
Best said the university has secured approval to establish programmes in Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Sciences, alongside new Allied Health Sciences programmes including Physiotherapy, Optometry, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Radiography.
“Our campus sits in a terrain that reflects the beauty of the Plateau landscape — rural, serene, and inspiring. Today, I am proud to say that the labour of our founding heroes and our recent efforts have positioned Plateau State University as an emerging global brand,” he stated.
He added that the institution is expanding agriculture and agribusiness through projects such as poultry production, planned dairy farming, crop cultivation, orchards, and a proposed dam for water supply.
