Redwood Academy launched its maiden interhouse sports event amid fanfare, despite the downpour inside the Ejigbo mini stadium, with Elizabeth Ohaka, the director of the academy, calling for increased involvement of children in sporting activities.
Ohaka, speaking at the occasion, applauded the management of the academy for putting together the school’s first ever interhouse sports event.
The early childhood specialist emphasised the need for children to be involved in sporting activities, especially in their early stage in life.
“Sport activities will help children grow stronger and healthier. Such activities will teach children discipline, focus, and perseverance.
“They build teamwork, leadership, and respect for others. Most importantly, they give children confidence, the kind that helps them believe in themselves in every area of life,” she said.
To all the participating athletes, she said, “Today marks a special milestone, our very first interhouse sports competition.
“It is more than races, games, and cheering; it is a celebration of growth, courage, teamwork, and dreams coming alive.”
In addition, she urged the children to seize the opportunity and enjoy themselves as well.
“Today is your day. You have trained, practiced, laughed, and maybe even worried a little. What matters most is not who comes first or last, but that you show up, give your best, and learn what it means to try.
“In life, champions are not only those who win medals, but they are also those who never give up,” she emphasised.
Moreover, she encouraged the children to run with confidence.
“When you fall, rise with courage. When your teammate wins, celebrate them with joy; that is the true spirit of sportsmanship,” she said.
Ohaka reiterated that, beyond the excitement, sports play an important role in people’s lives by helping them lead a healthier and stronger life.
She applauded the parents trusting the school with their children and for the continuous support.

“Your presence, your cheers, and your encouragement mean more than words can express,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ohaka announced that the Redwood Academy Interhouse Sports Competition will now be a bi-annual event.
This, she said will give the children ample opportunities to prepare, participate, and grow through healthy competition and shared experiences.
She buttressed that such an event is geared to building strong bodies, resilient minds, and confident individuals, a foundation that will carry the children far beyond the classroom.
“As we begin, let us remember: it is not just about winning, but about becoming.
“So, let every child leave here feeling proud, seen, and inspired,” she counseled.
At the end of the thrilling events Blue House emerged as champions, while Green House and Red House emerged as first and second runner-up, respectively. Prizes were also given to outstanding athletes.
