Bandits on Friday attacked Maradun town, headquarters of Maradun Local Government Area in Zamfara State, killing two persons and abducting others.

A local, Faruku Shehu, reported that the bandits arrived early Friday, firing shots and searching homes.

Shehu mentioned that while the exact number of abductees remains unknown, estimates suggest up to 30 persons may have been taken.

Another resident, Sani, whose home was ransacked, also confirmed the incident.

He recounted how his family used a different route to evade the bandits. Sani also noted the frequency of such incidents, citing a similar event the previous week.

“It was to my hearing the bandits boggled my parlor’s door and were coming towards my inner room when I managed to hide.

“My wives and children followed another passage and ran away to hide somewhere”, he said

Hassan Ibrahim, another local, confirmed the bandits’ armed presence and his own escape upon sighting them.

He said, “When I heard their movement, I closed my door, crossed over the nearby wall, and ran for my dear life”.

Ibrahim called for intervention from Bello Mattawale, the minister of state for defense, to prevent further incidents.

Attempts to contact the state police spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful.

Also, repeated calls to the Commissioner for Security, Cpt. Bala Mairiga, went unanswered.
