Femi Gbede, a Nigerian-born attorney, philanthropist, mentor and journalist based in the United States, has restated his commitment to the advancement of legal education as he names the recipients of the 2023/2024 cohort of his law school scholarship programme in Nigeria.

Gbede’s scholarship is targeted at Nigerian students pursuing their law education at the Nigerian Law School.

In a statement naming the successful candidates for the programme and reinforcing his commitment to the advancement of legal education, Gbede said: “The selection of all 10 of them reflects my judgment that they have the unbounded potential to succeed, given the necessary support and mentorship.

“Each of them is unique, with compelling stories of grit, determination and perseverance, even in the face of adversity. Please, join me in congratulating all of them.”

The 2023/2024 Femi Gbede Scholars are Faith Bello, Temitope Ogunsanwo, Tochukwu Agu, Margaret Arop, Sholafunmi Olaniyi and Morenike Oyeleke.

Others are Lotachukwu Udenta, Chimdiebere Anya-Awa, Adewale Adelaja and Kelvin Ofodile.

With the programme, the 10 Law School candidates will be assisted with funding, which covers fees and monthly stipends, mentorship and other support to see them through their time at the Nigerian Law School, the last step towards becoming barristers at law.

In 2023, there were nine awardees for the Femi Gbede Scholars programme and they would be called to bar later this year.
