TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY JOHANNES MYBURGH A mother gets on May 16, 2012 antiretroviral (ARV) drugs at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, South Africa's largest public hospital, in Soweto. The medicines reduce the viral load in the pregnant woman's body, so the infant has a smaller risk to contract the virus through the umbilical chord or exposure to bodily fluids during birth or breastfeeding. The treatment has saved up to 70,000 babies more every year -- a massive success story in a country with almost six million people living with HIV and AIDS and a notorious treatment history.
