Annual West Africa Power Summit (WAPS) organised by FlintXposures kicks off tomorrow with the theme “Developing sustainable power generation, transmission and distribution network for West Africa.”
The key focus areas include alternative/renewable energy, capacity, policies, influence on the sustainability of power production in the sub-region and strategic opportunities needed to drive power sector partnerships.
“Unrestricted access to electric power will not only enable economic growth but more importantly, connect the West African people with the rest of the world, hence, providing adequate electricity in West Africa remains a primary concern for the development of the West African economy,” Oti Ukpai, chief executive, FlintXposures, says.
The major feature of the two-day summit is that it is focused on power projects across the West African sub-region.
“We have picked a couple of power projects and invited the people behind these projects to speak about them,” Ukpai says.
According to Ukpai, the objectives of the conference include bringing people that will give the right information and bringing private and public sectors together on a good platform to chart the way forward for the power sector.
Confirmed speakers include Ify Malo, campaign director, Power for All; Effion Edet, chairman, Power Sectro Group of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Mike Uzoigwe, chief executive, Sahara Power Group; Anita Nana Okuribido, national president, Council for Renewable Energy Nigeria (CREN), Oladele Amoda, chief executive, Eko Disco, among others.
WAPS 2016, the second edition, aims to bring government, private investors, businesses and citizens to work together with the aim of placing the region on a sustainable and prosperous path by removing obstacles that stand in the way of opportunity.
Delegates will benefit from the various relevant regionally-focused presentations, panel discussion and opportunity to network with policy makers, thought leaders and global investors.
