…Food bank will enhance nutritional status of children-Zulum
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-East, with a view to tackle hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity in the region
Oluremi stated this while launching the programme in Maiduguri during an official visit to Borno State, where she said the intervention would provide critical nutritional support to vulnerable groups, particularly children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and economically disadvantaged households.
According to her, the initiative will establish community based food banks in every local government area, linked to primary healthcare centres under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, in partnership with the Bank of Agriculture.
“This will be the first assignment, while we are here in Borno state for our children and mothers. I have the honour to commission the National Community Food Bank programme in the Northeast to the glory of God,” she noted.
It targets malnourished children under six, pregnant and lactating women, orphans, vulnerable children, and households facing severe nutritional and economic challenges.

Oluremi unveiled nursing quarters, located adjacent the State Specialist Hospital, consists of eight blocks of six flats. Each unit is fully furnished and equipped with air-conditioning systems, designed to provide comfortable living conditions for health personnel.
In the education sector, the first lady also commissioned two mega primary schools: Aliyakeri and Abbaganaram Primary Schools.
Each school comprises 48 classrooms with a capacity for thousands of pupils and is equipped with an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre, modern sports facilities, e-learning systems and solar-powered electricity to ensure uninterrupted learning.
“I want to sincerely appreciate the governor for the great work he’s been doing. And I didn’t know I would have the strength to go around, but the more I see them, the more rejuvenated I get.
“I don’t think I’ve even seen a lot except like that except in Lagos, I think to be sincere, we are really, really proud of the great work your son(Zulum) is doing. And I believe that everyone is proud of him, and we pray that God will continue to bless him. We are giving to social issues and also to help revive our economy and the prosperity of our people.”Remi echoed.
She also presented awards to best teachers, others who have distinguished themselves in their fields of endeavor, flagged of empowerment programme for 2,000 women and young girls pilots by the Zulum’s administration.

Also Governor Babagana Zulum said he remain eternally grateful for launching this food program in Borno state, because the insurgency has triggered acute humanitarian and post displacement crisis with devastating social and economic impact on population, further deepening poverty in the northeast
He opined that the establishment of Food Bank in Borno State will enhance the nutritional status of the children, and thereby ensuring growth and development of the children.
“We want to extend a deepest appreciation to you for finding time despite your tight schedule to commission some of our landmark projects, in the last two and a half years, we have seen a lot of support from Tinubu’s administration. We are externally grateful this intervention.”He disclosed.
