..council ratifies major investments in healthcare, commerce, others
The Yobe State Executive Council (EXCO), under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has ratified approvals totalling N59.8 billion for critical development projects across the state.
Buni, speaking during the meeting held on Monday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Damaturu, highlighted key issues affecting the state, including security, infrastructure, energy, sports development, commerce, and healthcare service delivery.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, commended the administration’s sustained efforts in boosting food security and advancing infrastructural development. He also urged citizens to continue supporting government initiatives and to pray for peace and more impactful programmes.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said, “A meeting of the State Executive Council was held today, Monday 27th April 2026, at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Damaturu, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana.

“During the meeting, numerous memoranda were considered and ratified in the areas of road construction, healthcare delivery, transport and energy, commerce, and sports development. All the memos presented for ratification were about projects and services designed to improve the living conditions of the people of the state.
“A total of N59,845,482,013.90 was ratified by the council for approvals earlier granted for the execution of various projects and services.
“Of this amount, N34,115,908,863.13 was expended in the roads sector. This includes the construction of 59-km Kaliyari-Bayamari road in Tarmuwa and Bursari Local Governments and 53-km Bayamari-Gaidam road in Bursari and Gaidam Local Government areas
“The sum of N8,580,977,364.60 was ratified in the commerce sector for the construction of Jajimaji Modern Market, external works facilities at Machina Modern Market and external works facilities at Buni-Yadi Modern Market.
“In the transport and energy sector, the sum of N5,345,469,372.00 was ratified for the procurement of new 800KVA and 350KVA power generators and laying of underground armoured cables and switchgear at Government House Damaturu; procurement and installation of 2,200 units of integrated 100-watt (all-in-one) solar-powered street lights in 11 local government area headquarters (Bara, Babbangida, Dapchi, Yunusari, Fika town, Damagum, Nangere, Jakusko, Jajimaji, Machina, and Yusufari); and construction of a 33KV line from Bukarti to Kanamma towns.

“Procurement of two transformer sub-stations and distribution network at Kanamma town; and provision of new generators in some hospitals across the state, including Specialist Hospital Damaturu (800KVA), Yobe State Women and Children Hospital Damaturu (350KVA), and the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu (350KVA).
“In the sports development sector, N346,899,707.56 was expended for additional works in the ongoing reconstruction and upgrade of the 27 August Stadium in Damaturu.
” In the area of healthcare delivery, the sum of N5,544,532,859.87 was expended for the construction of new office complex for the Ministry of Health and Human Services and Hospital Management Board headquarters, renovation and rehabilitation of general hospitals Damagum and Nangere, and the supply and installation of dental equipment at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital Damaturu,” he disclosed.
