In a bid to bridge the growing shortfall in house, the Akwa Ibom Government has delivered 1,048 units of housing to beneficiaries within three years of Governor Umo Eno’s Administration.
Both houses and landed property are in high demand in Uyo, the State capital and other major towns and cities, making the demand for houses to an all-time high.
Aniekan Umanah, Commissioner for Information, who made this known in Uyo, the State Capital, described the housing scheme as a milestone achievement recorded by the Administration under the Arise Agenda.
Umanah said the housing units delivered in various categories, included Compassionate Homes (438 units), Grace Estate (230 units), Aviation Village (100 units), Medical Residences at the Medical City (100 units), House of Assembly/EXCO Quarters (64 units), Judiciary Quarters (50 units), Ewet Luxury Garden (35 units), and residences for Local Government Chairmen (31 units).
“Governor Umo Eno has recorded a significant milestone in the housing sector, delivering over 1,048 housing units in less than three years in office, ” he stated.
He said housing development has remained one of the 17 focal areas of the Governor’s ARISE Agenda in the State.
According to him, out of the number of housing units, 150 civil servants on Grade Levels 1–7 benefited from 150 housing units provided free of charge by the Government.
He said 355 vulnerable persons have already received their compassionate homes from the 438 units completed out of a target of 500, while other housing units projects were at various stages of completion.
“Building on this progress, the administration has unveiled plans for an additional 150 units of town houses in the reclaimed and refilled Uyo Village Road axis.
“When completed, this will bring the total number of housing units delivered and underway catering to different categories of residents across the state.
“The housing drive forms a key component of the ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure development, economic expansion, and improved living standards
“The housing units initiative is designed to bridge the housing gap, stimulate economic activity, and support sustainable urban growth in Akwa Ibom State”, he added.
