Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has described the return of former governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a significant political gain for the party, particularly as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 General elections.

Shekarau, a former two-term Governor and Presidential aspirant, officially rejoined the APC on Sunday in Kano, a development, the governor, said had further strengthened the party’s structure and electoral prospects in the State.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.

Political alignments in Kano have remained fluid in recent years, with major actors frequently shifting alliances across party lines. Shekarau’s return is therefore viewed as part of a broader political recalibration within the state, where competition among leading parties has continued to intensify since the last general elections.

Governor Yusuf noted that arrangements were being made, in consultation with the APC national leadership, to organise a formal reception for Shekarau and his supporters into the party fold. He said the development reflects the APC’s ongoing consolidation and its widening political appeal across Kano State.

According to him, the party is currently enjoying renewed support from various political blocs, a trend he said is positioning the APC as a dominant force in the State’s political landscape. He also expressed confidence that the party remains strategically well-positioned for future elections at both state and national levels.

Yusuf stressed that unity and internal cohesion remain central to the APC’s strategy, adding that efforts are ongoing to strengthen grassroots structures and expand participation across all levels of the party.

He urged party members and supporters to remain focused and committed, noting the importance of sustained mobilisation as political activities gather momentum.

Shekarau’s return to the APC is widely expected to influence emerging alliances and reshape political calculations within Kano’s highly competitive political environment. Analysts say the development could further accelerate realignments among key stakeholders as the state gradually moves toward the next election cycle.
