Soueast, a Chinese automaker, has entered Nigeria’s automotive market with a line-up of sport utility vehicles, signalling plans to commence local production by the third quarter of 2026 as it seeks to tap into growing demand in Africa’s largest economy.
The brand is being introduced through the Kewalram Chanrai Group, which said the move reflects its expansion in Nigeria’s automotive sector amid shifting consumer demand and increasing competition.
The market entry was marked by a media launch in Lagos, followed by a test drive session along the Coastal Highway, where industry stakeholders assessed the vehicles under typical road conditions.

Speaking at the event, Anil Sahgal, chief operating officer, mobility division of Kewalram Chanrai Group, said the decision to introduce the brand was driven by evolving consumer preferences for vehicles that offer a balance of cost, durability, and functionality.
Sahgal said the company has put in place supporting structures, including a dealership network and after-sales service system, to sustain operations in the country.
He added that the company plans to begin local assembly of the vehicles by Q3 2026, a move that could align with ongoing efforts to deepen domestic vehicle production.
The test drive session formed part of efforts to introduce the vehicles to the market, allowing participants to evaluate performance and handling across Lagos roads.
