Even as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) continues to grapple with internal crises and is yet to conduct its presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, plans are underway for the inauguration of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, popularly known as the OK-Movement, across states.
This was disclosed in a statement by Justin Ijeh, the movement’s National Publicity Secretary.
The development came amid growing political speculation around an alliance between former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 polls.
A political ally of Obi, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, recently claimed during a Trust TV interview that discussions between both camps had progressed significantly. “I can categorically tell you that they have agreed,” Abdulkarim said.
Also speaking on Trust TV, spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habib Mailemo, maintained that both Obi and Kwankwaso command what he described as “organic” nationwide followership, rooted in conviction rather than political inducement.
“It is only Peter Obi and my principal, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, that have organic followers whose support is not driven by inducement. Their popularity is rooted in competence and track records,” he said.
In the statement on Monday, Ijeh said Nigeria is at a critical crossroads, citing worsening economic hardship, rising cost of living, and persistent insecurity.
“Nigeria stands at a crossroads. Today, our people endure unprecedented economic hardship, soaring cost of living, and the persistent shadow of insecurity,” he said.
He added that the OK-Movement’s unveiling of its national and state structures marks “more than a political milestone,” describing it as “a rebirth of a coordinated, nationwide engine for systemic reforms and national renewal.”
He further noted that state-level inaugurations would begin in the coming weeks across the federation, adding that the movement is aimed at promoting national unity and “healing.”
