Standard Chartered has emerged as the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial adviser in West Africa by deal value, underlining its growing influence in the region’s dealmaking space.
The bank clinched the number one position at the DealMakers Africa Annual Gala Awards held recently in Lagos, outperforming other global and regional advisory firms.
The ranking, based primarily on deal value and volume, highlights Standard Chartered’s execution strength and ability to deliver large-ticket transactions across West Africa.
The awards ceremony brought together leading dealmakers, advisory firms, and corporate finance stakeholders to recognise top performers in M&A and broader financial advisory activities over the past year.
Yemisi Deji-Bejide, managing director and head of M&A for Africa at Standard Chartered, said the recognition reflects the bank’s active deal pipeline and commitment to the continent.

The DealMakers Africa awards, which began in South Africa in 2000 before expanding across the rest of Africa in 2008, are widely regarded as a benchmark for performance in Africa’s financial advisory industry. Rankings are largely determined by measurable metrics such as transaction size and volume, while some categories are assessed based on execution complexity, transformational impact, and value creation.
