Ekiti State University targets 100% digital proficiency among lecturers – Chancellor

Tunji Olowolafe, chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), has said that the university was working to achieve a 100 percent digital proficiency among all 650 lecturers of the institution under the Project Digi-Teach EKSU initiative.

“This programme will equip every single faculty member — regardless of department, seniority, or current skill — with the digital tools and competencies demanded by the modern classroom and modern world,” Olowolafe stated during the recent 30th convocation ceremony of the institution.

According to him, the digital initiatives aimed at transforming the institution’s academic landscape with a future proof education ecosystem. “We believe that a university that prepares students for the digital economy must itself be fluent in the digital world. You cannot teach what you do not know. You cannot give what you do not have. You cannot inspire a student to embrace the future if you are still uncertain about it.”

He stated that the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation had already sponsored 37 lecturers to international conferences since 2024, but Digi-Teach represents a more ambitious step for the institution, and disclosed that EKSU has become the first African university accredited on Springpod, a London-based careers platform.

According to him, the convocation underscored EKSU’s ambition to produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also globally competitive, digitally fluent, and anchored in timeless values. “We are building EKSU graduates who are globally competitive. As of today, every EKSU student and graduate can access free virtual work experiences with Amazon, Barclays, Deloitte, Rolls-Royce, and many more,” he stated.
