Nigerian Afrobeats artists secured impressive paydays at Coachella 2026, solidifying the genre’s global dominance. Davido, performing on the Mid Tier Secondary Gobi Stage, sets a standard pay of $500,000 but is rumored to have negotiated a deal worth $1 million for that stage.

Other Afrobeats stars, Wizkid and Tems, also made a high-profile guest appearance on the main stage alongside headliner Justin Bieber, where their compensation would have been handled by the main artist who invited them.

Coachella 2026 is currently making history in the California desert. The festival began on the 10th of April and will conclude its second weekend on the 19th of April. This year is especially significant because it features the highest-paid headliner in the history of the event.

According to data from the Grey Journal and Billboard, the pay tiers for Coachella 2026 are broken down by stage and popularity:

Headliners: These top stars earn between 4 million dollars and 10 million dollars for the two weekends.

Main Stage Non-Headliners: Large font artists who are not the main closing act earn between 1 million dollars and 3 million dollars.

Mid Tier Secondary Stages: Artists performing on stages like the Gobi Stage typically receive between 100,000 dollars and 500,000  dollars.

Emerging Acts: Newer artists on the smallest stages earn between 10 thousand dollars and 50 thousand dollars.

Justin Bieber set the all-time record this year by receiving 10 million dollars for his headline performance. This represents a 25 percent increase in pay compared to previous years. Wizkid and Tems appeared as guest artists on the main stage, performing Essence with Justin Bieber.

Coachella typically handles the main artists, so any guest or surprise artists and performances are handled by the main artist who invited them

During his performance, he brought out Adekunle Gold as his own surprise guest to perform their hit song High.

At Coachella 2025, Rema performed on the Mojave stage. He was one of several major African acts featured in the 2025 lineup, which also included Seun Kuti & Egypt 80.

Most artists at this level spend a large portion of their fee on dancers and stage production because the main goal is the massive jump in streaming numbers and the ability to charge higher booking fees for their upcoming tours.

Coachella only provides the basic stage and sound system. Everything else, from the unique lighting to the travel for the band, is paid for by the artists and their management teams. For Nigerian superstars this year, the investment has clearly paid off as Afrobeats continues to dominate the global stage.
