YouTube Music is rolling out a refreshed ‘Now Playing’ interface that introduces a split layout aimed at making playback controls and queue management more intuitive.

The update builds on earlier redesign efforts by separating key elements of the listening experience into clearer sections. Users will now see a more structured interface that prioritises the currently playing track while making it easier to access upcoming songs and additional features.

A major change is the removal of clutter from the bottom navigation. Instead of multiple tabs such as Lyrics and Related, the redesign consolidates these features into fewer touchpoints.

Lyrics are now embedded within a carousel-style interface, while related tracks can be accessed by tapping the song title.

The ‘Up Next’ queue has also been streamlined and may now reflect the name of the playlist, album, or mix currently playing, offering clearer context for listeners.

Visually, the interface continues to adopt a cleaner, more modern design language. Playback controls sit more prominently beneath album artwork, while the progress bar has been refined with a thicker, rounded appearance that responds dynamically when users scrub through a track.

The redesign is part of a broader effort by YouTube to unify its music and video experiences, ensuring smoother transitions between audio tracks and music videos.

This also reflects ongoing experimentation as the company has tested multiple versions of the ‘Now Playing’ screen over the past year before settling on this approach.

As with many YouTube updates, the new interface is expected to roll out gradually, meaning not all users will see the changes immediately.
